Smart sensors for roads
Purpose
To improve the accuracy of road data
About the Project
The city has launched a pilot to test smart sensors for roads (StreetSense). The small devices embed themselves in the road surface, reading and transmitting real-time information not only about the number of cars on the road, but also whether the road surface is dry, wet, hot, frozen, or gravelly. In addition, the devices provide their own energy, so their implementation is economical.
Results
State: Optimizing the cost of maintaining road quality
People: Better quality roads, more accurate information about congestion and road conditions
Business: Information that can be used to create new products
